    TXT format

Avid Media Composer uses two subtiles file formats. STL (EBU) format and TXT structured format. The EBU STL format is complicated (it is not the Spruce STL format). TXT format looks very similar to SRT or VTT, but the difference lies in the last bit of timecode. In the case of SRT or VTT format, the last digits are in miliseconds (000 to 999), in the AVID TXT file it means the number of frames. Example, if the movie is 25 frames per second, the last timecode numbers are between 00 and 24.

    Select subtitles

Apply Filters/Generator/SubCap to the timeline. It must be on a track that spans the entire timeline. Open the effect for editing. Expand Caption Files and select Import Caption Data.

    Import subtitles

Find your subtitles file. Unfortunately, the selection window seems to be from the Stone Age. Select your file, it will have the extension _Srt2Avid.txt, and import. You may need to change the start timecode of the timeline because Avid defaults start at 10:00:00:00 and the timecodes in the Srt file at 00:00:00.000 You can do this in the sequence pop-up menu, TC Start item.
